A U.S. KE ASAT capability will - Enable U.S. and allied forces to control both air and space over the battlefield. It will be a key element of space control - Play a counterproliferation role by deterring other countries from buying expensive space-based reconnaissance satellites - Enhance U.S. ability to engage in information warfare - Serve as a deterrent to any country that might be tempted to conduct space-based surveillance of U.S. forces. - Protect U.S. satellites by providing the ability to respond in kind to an attack on them - Provide a low cost and low technical risk solution to the problem of hostile satellites - Provide an operational ASAT capability years sooner than any other concept |
